Doing the Lambeth Walk: Make your way to Summerfest this Friday
As we found out during the recent visit of Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche, Lambeth has a lot to offer a Diamond Way Buddhist when taking some downtime from renovating the Beaufoy Institute. We’re enjoying getting to know the neighbourhood.
If you go down Black Prince Road and head right along the river, just a stone’s throw from the Houses of Parliament, you’ll find Archbishop’s Park, where the Friends of Archbishop’s Park will be ‘Doing the Lambeth Walk‘ at their SummerFest this Friday, 16th August.
The original “Lambeth Walk” was an evening promenade by the predominantly poor residents of North Lambeth:- that is the area around Black Prince Road.

SummerFest features various traditional games & activities, from face painting to a dog show. It’s sure to be perfect summer entertainment for our local families, or a cultural experience for visitors helping with the Beaufoy project. With plenty of the Diamond Way Buddhist sangha already living in Lambeth, you may well bump into a familiar face there. Pop along if you can!
If you can’t make the SummerFest, Archbishop’s Park, whose entrance is almost hidden about 100 yards down Lambeth Road, is well worth a visit on a quiet day. Formerly part of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s official residence, Lambeth Palace, Archbishop’s Park is a charming local beauty spot that’s just down the road from the London Diamond Way Buddhist centre.
SE1’s largest green space, Archbishops’ Park was originally donated to the local community by the Archbishop for the ‘scores of pale children’ to play in.
